Welcome to John Papapolymerou who has been named Chairperson and MSU Foundation Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  Professor Papapolymerou's appointment as department Chairperson begins August 16, 2015.

Papapolymerou comes to MSU from Georgia Tech, where he served as the Ken Byers Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Associate Director of the Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC).  His research interests include the development of microwave/mm-wave/submm-wave circuits, antennas and modules for wireless communication, radar and sensing systems.  He has published more than 350 refereed journal and conference publications with his students and peers and holds five U.S. patents.  He currently serves as the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, and a member of the IEEE MTT-Society Administrative Committee.  He has also served as a member of the Technical Advisory Board Periodical Review Advisory Committee of IEEE.

Papapolymerou has received a number of recognitions and awards including:

  • IEEE AP-S H.A. Wheeler Prize Paper Award in 2012
  • IEEE Fellow in 2011
  • IEEE AP-S John Kraus Antenna Award in 2010
  • IEEE MTT-S Outstanding Young Engineer Award 2009
  • Georgia Tech ECE Junior Faculty Member Award in 2009
  • NSF CAREER Award
  • Army Research Office Young Investigator Award
John Papapolymerou holds the following degrees:
Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (1999)
M.S. from the University of Michigan (1994)
B.S. from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece (1993)
Ioannis "John" Papapolymerou has been named chair of the Michigan State University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). His appointment is effective Aug. 16, 2015. - See more at:
